A group of gunmen allegedly trailing the Chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government Area, Honourable Lateef Akorede, were arrested by security agencies on Saturday in Ayete.
The gunmen, who claimed to be on election duty, were wearing Hunter Special Squad (HSS) uniforms but failed to produce any accredited tags or valid identification cards.
Reacting to the incident, Chairman Akorede stated that he had noticed individuals following him since the previous day and credited the intervention of God and security agencies for the arrest.
He alleged that senior members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state were behind the plot, but expressed confidence in his ultimate victory with the support of God and the people of Ibarapa North Local Government Area.
