A Canada-based, Yoruba-focused, nongovernmental, nonprofit and nonpartisan organization is set to organize a 2021 Asa Day in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Friday, 21st May, 2021(World Cultural Day).
According to the President and convener of Asa Day Worldwide; Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye, The proposed Asa Day will be held at the Tarmac Hill Cultural Centre, Mokola Hill in collaboration with the Oyo State Government under the auspices of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism).
The theme for this year’s program will center on ‘LET’S USE OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE TO REVIVE OUR ECONOMY’ with an emphasis on lectures and symposium of the aforementioned theme, cultural presentations, awareness on youth empowerment access center, awards to major players and promoters of Yoruba culture among others.
According to the Baba Asa; Joel Oyatoye, the events would be divided into two phases, the first phase will feature a lecture by Former Dean; Faculty of Art, University of Ibadan, Professor Adedotun Ogundeji, titled “awareness on youth empowerment access center”. The second phase would be centered on celebration of culture and awards’ presentation on the same date and venue respectively.
The Chief Hosts will be the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde and the Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Wasiu Olatunbosun while the Royal Fathers of the day will be Oba(Dr) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, The Alaafin of Oyo and Oba Saliu Adetunji Akanmu Ajeoguguniso1, The Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The special guests expected at the event are: Iba Ganni Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Olori Francis Oluwagbemiro, The Olori Oluwo ROF Worldwide, Rt. Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, The Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Kazeem Tunde Arole, The Chairman House Committee on Tourism and Culture, other members of Oyo State House of Assembly and other dignitaries.
“We know it is a crucial period across the globe, we need to maintain and increase awareness to the world on our culture, traditions and recourses. We will follow all safety guidelines regarding Covid-19″.
“ASA DAY WORLDWIDE has embarked on relief activities to the Nigerian Government, as we are organizing a project called Youth Empowerment Access Centre where the youths will be empowered. We are also part of the ongoing renovation project of Art Gallery at the Oyo State cultural center”
Oyatoye continued,” we have donated computers to several cultural institutions and we are working to do more as we are planning to empower the youths”
