Oyo Govt Announces New Waste Disposal Payment plan



In an attempt to make Oyo state habitable and hygienic, the Oyo State Government has introduced a new solid waste management architecture.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Abdulateef Oyeleke in a statement revealed that the new solid waste architecture was another initiative aimed at providing a sustainable environment that will improve the Overall wellbeing of residents in the state.

According to the statement, private refuse contractors in the state are not allowed to collect fees from their clients.

“All households, facility owners, private, commercial industries, religious houses, Institutions have been advised not to make any form of payment to their PSP operators.”

The statement further revealed that the State Government has employed accredited revenue consultants who will be responsible for serving bills to all clients while payments would be made through designated banks either manually or electronically, stressing that any payment rendered to any PSP is at the payers’ risk.

In view of this, all dump sites in Ibadan, such as Lapite, Aba Eku and Ajakanga which are under rehabilitation have been closed down with immediate effect and anyone caught dumping refuse in these areas would be prosecuted.

The statement hinted that all PSP operators and others are to make use of only Awotan landfill, where the State government has provided state-of-the-art facilities for the purpose intended.

Dr. Oyeleke however enjoined members of the public to be informed about the new development; the new solid waste management architecture, by attending to their Waste Bills promptly, while also desisting from dumping wastes on the roadsides, drainage pathways, rivers and other open spaces.
