The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) headed by Dr Nureni Adeniran, has indicated that contractors handling SUBEB/UBEC projects of past years who have either abandoned or have not done works commensurable with the funds they have received to do the needful may face legal action.
Adeniran hinted this on Thursday on Fresh FM, a private Ibadan-based radio station.
He also stated that the board would recruit security guards to safeguard the public primary schools adding that it would help to prevent intrusion, invasion and vandalisation of public primary school property in the state.
Adeniran added that some public primary schools fences would be constructed and dilapidated fences would also be rebuilt from funds generated from UBEC 2019 Intervention Funds.
Adeniran explained that the board has a good relationship with the relevant security agencies that would assist in securing the property of the public schools.
The SUBEB boss spoke further: “Out of five model schools awarded this year, four of them have been completed and the fifth one is near completion.
“I need to inform you that, the education family which includes the Honorable Commissioner for Education, the Teaching Service Commission, the Oyo SUBEB Chairman and other relevant stakeholders in the state education sector are developing a holistic and comprehensive approach to resolve the problem of inadequate infrastructures in public schools in the state.
“On the issue of gratuity, what the government of Governor Seyi Makinde has paid in just over one year is more than what the past administration paid in eight years of the past administration.
“Similarly, the Board is ready to assist the Ministry of Education in monitoring the common entrance examinations for primary six pupils which are to be conducted by the ministry, while the common entrance examinations had to be postponed because of the ongoing WAEC examinations in schools that are already centres for the examinations.”
He announced that the management of the board has been divided into five teams for the five zones in the state for effective monitoring and management of the common entrance examinations in the state.
“The Board will still recruit more teachers so as to fill the deficit in a number of available teachers in the state,” he noted.
