ELEWEOMO: I Won’t Benefit Anything From Sending Folarin to Jail Again — Makinde

The Governor Of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde has noted that the case file concerning the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Teslim Folarin is a criminal case.

Makinde recalled the case of the death of a former leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alh. Lateef Eleweomo, who was maimed in 2010 of which Sen. Teslim Folarin is circumstantial to the death.

Makinde, who noted that opening the file will not be relevant, maintained that whatever the decision he makes, will be towards the development of Oyo State which is his priority.

“If I want to take decisions from where I seat, it should be about the development of Oyo State.

“However, whoever has a glass house should not throw stone on others. It is evident that a life was lost. A precious life was lost and nobody’s life should be wasted for politics.

“Putting Senator Folarin in jail won’t benefit the people of Oyo. Things have happened in the past. If we go to court, alot of things will be involved. When we go to war, people can still come to a round table to discuss settlement but it can never be like before. I will let the sleeping dog lie”, he added.

Who Killed EleweOmo? — Makinde Carpets Folarin at Splash FM Guber Debate

The Executive Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde on Wednesday silenced his major opposition and flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Teslim Folarin at a gubernatorial debate organised for major governorship candidates in Oyo State by West Midlands Communications, owner of Splash Fm and Lagelu FM.

Makinde, who did this by asking a question on who killed Eleweomo, a former NURTW boss in the state, came after the Senator had described the Chairman of the Park Management System (PMS), Mukaila Auxiliary as an ex-convict.

Folarin, who tensed the atmosphere during the debate held at the International Conference Centre, Ibadan questioned the character of Auxiliary and the reason he is the chairman of the PMS, while describing him as an ex-convict.

Governor Makinde, while fielding response countered, asking the question which has been in the air for long that “Who killed Eleweomo?”

Senator Folarin who felt the question is directed to him got angry, calling on the panel to do something about the question.

In the meantime, Makinde amidst the discussion, has also added that the case file of the murder allegations is still on his table while Folarin said he should revisit it.

Folarin’s Chances get Slimmer as APC Chieftain, Adeduntan Declares Support for Makinde

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Commissioner for Health during the administration of late governor Abiola Ajimobi’s, Dr Azeez Adedutan on Tuesday declared support for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde.

Adeduntan said Makinde, who is the current governor of the state remained the best man that can move the state forward considering his performance out of the leading governorship candidates in the state.

Speaking in Ibadan at a press briefing, Adedutan described APC primary in the state as fraud, recalling that Adeduntan contested the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primaries won by Teslim Folarin, a three-term senator.

He said, “I’ve never seen what happened in APC in the last nine months of the primary of APC since I’ve joined politics.

“To forestall accusations of anti party activities and my unwavering commitment for truth, justice, equity and fair play; and after full consultations with my supporters; throughout the 33 LGA of OYO State, I AZEEZ POPOOLA ADEDUNTAN, the OSI BASORUN OF IBADAN LAND, hereby resign my membership of APC effective today, TUESDAY February 21st and defecting to PDP to support my brother, SEYI Makinde for a well deserved 2nd term and BOLA AHMED TINUBU, as the next president of NIGERIA.

“Since I have been excluded; through fraud and electoral heist, for which we were and are ready anytime for a civil action suit, either for slander or libel by any APC ticket holder, who feels injured by our factual statements above, being a fact and material witness; either by originating summons or writ of summons; in any federal court, in the last nine months of the pseudo OYO 2022 primaries.

“Fraudulent ticket holders in APC are now prowling the streets and roads of OYo State as legitimate candidates.

“A man that cannot stand for truth, equity, fairness and justice, will fall for anything.

“For Oyo State indigenes and our youth especially, it is important to point out to them; that the worst form of corruption is electoral fraud; as it imposes unwanted candidates on the populace, who will never answer to the voters, but the fraudulent elements that implanted them into offices.

“My foray into politics was a child of circumstance, specifically driven to serve and help in bringing good governance to Oyo State primarily, and NIGERIA secondarily. Since all politics are local, as is done in the USA and other civilised world.

“This was more so, when Oyo State became notorious for brigandage, with hoodlums and NURTW members prowling OYO State roads and streets and the state became unruly and a war zone in 2011”, he said.

  • Emulate Buhari, Apologise to Oyo Residents for Your Failure – Oyo PDP Tells Folarin

Emulate Buhari, Apologise to Oyo Residents for Your Failure – Oyo PDP Tells Folarin

The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated its demand on the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate in the state, Senator Teslim Folarin to emulate the courage and boldness of President Muhammadu Buhari to publicly apologise to the people of Oyo State.

This was as the ruling PDP also said it would amount to an exercise in futility for APC in Oyo State to gallivant about in the name of politicking without first admitting to its monumental failure and subsequently apologising to the people of the state in order to lay a foundation for itself upon which it could seek for any political mandate.

Akeem Olatunji, the Publicity Secretary of the ruling PDP in Oyo State made this disclosure in a press statement on Tuesday, February 7 insisting that no matter the amount of feigning of ignorance or deliberate move to look the other way would stop the people of the state from demanding genuine apologies from the opposition party.

The statement by the Oyo State PDP also mocked the state chapter of the APC for raising false alarms and making malicious and unfounded allegations against the ruling PDP a day before yesterday, when the opposition party eventually regained the slightest atom of sense of human empathy by suspending its insensitively planned presidential rally amidst unabated frustration and pain imposed on innocent Nigerians by the APC led government.

“We know that by now, Oyo State chapter of APC and its lie manufacturing machines would have seen how they have badly messed up themselves with the false alarm and allegations against the ruling PDP in the state. Even toddlers in their senses wouldn’t take such a party serious for what its worth.

“Just days ago, the Oyo APC came out of its lies manufacturing factory to create unnecessary tension and apprehension especially within Ibadan metropolis where the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was expected to hold his rally.

“Initially our thoughts was that, could APC be so callous not to have any atom of empathy left in them for the suffering and agonising masses or could it be that they’re just blinded by their desperation to seize power at all cost to have misguided its presidential campaign committee to go ahead with the planned rally slated for Tuesday considering the latest events in Ibadan where frustrated and angry youths aggressively protested across different parts of the city including the state government secretariat, destroying government properties and banks.

“Again, it was ridiculously amazing and amusing how APC in Oyo State could hurriedly came up with such maliciously wicked and unfounded lies by raising false alarm that would have probably increased the work schedule and operation of security agencies in the state.

“We had thought that if sample of the open rejection tasted by the APC governorship candidate in the state, Senator Teslim Folarin over the last weekend at Gate when he visited the area for political campaign occasioned the false alarm and the satanic plan to blackmail the PDP, the APC should have known better going by the records that PDP candidates including Governor ‘Seyi Makinde had visited the area at different intervals yet they were well received and welcomed.

“Folarin and his co-travelers should have known all of these public rejections by the masses who are eagerly waiting for election days to arrive to show the APC how rejected they have become in Oyo State that this state is officially and fully PDP compliant and no amount of evil plan, maliciously cooked up lies or false propaganda could sway the people from withdrawing their full support for PDP and the ‘Seyi Makinde led government.

“Teslim Folarin and his co-travelers in the APC should deduce from recent development in Ibadan due to the needless agony and hardship imposed on Nigerians by APC government on account of very harsh and unfriendly economic realities couple with unending scarcity of petrol, unavailable cash in circulation particularly the newly redesigned naira notes as well as unimaginably high cost of living under the APC government, and begin campaign of restitution by going everywhere to beg for forgiveness from the people of Oyo State”, Oyo PDP said.

Additionally, Oyo PDP said admittance of failure and subsequent apologies by President Buhari in Katsina State, venue of the APC presidential rally yesterday, was commendable as it shows courage and boldness of a man who has seen the suffering of the masses and the daily anguish being experienced by the Nigerians calling on Folarin and APC leadership in the state to do same publicly in order to have a chance to seek for any mandate otherwise everything it is doing as campaign activities are direct insult on the sensibility of the people of Oyo State.

The ruling PDP in the state recalled that the Oyo APC was in power for eight uninterrupted years between 2011 and 2019, an era the ruling party noted was characterised by what could best be described as ‘civilian dictator or military regime in civilian form’, where the then ruling APC held the entire state at its jugular under its draconian rule that caused innocent residents, workers, artisans, students, and even civil servants, pensioners, and retirees avoidable deaths, palpable fear, and uncertainty.

Olatunji recalled further that the then APC government became notorious for its draconic system of government where both a governor and wife of the governor became two separate powerful governors under one administration and held Oyo State to her knees under a military-like regime that silenced all other voices that sounded anything contrary to the dictates of the APC regime, a period now being referred to as the ‘inglorious dark era’ in the history of Oyo State.

“Going by the courageous act of the president yesterday in Katsina where public apologies was tendered by President Buhari, Teslim Folarin should as a matter of noble service to his party do the same in Oyo State. Apologise for the many needless deaths of pensioners and retirees under APC regime, beg for forgiveness for reducing two productive years from the life span of innocent students of LAUTECH under the APC regime, apologise for the private enrichment of few at the detriments of workers, show genuine remorse for all the evil perpetrated by APC government between 2011 and 2019 then humbly withdraw from the 2023 race to avoid the embarrassment of your political career.

“As Folarin and his co-travelers in Oyo APC are well aware, ‘Seyi Makinde is no longer just our PDP governorship candidate, Makinde has become the 2023 political project of all pensioners, civil servants, students, artisans, teachers and all lovers of good governance and purposeful leadership therefore, it would be political suicidal to at this material time contest against a God-sent man and man of the masses at the polls”, Oyo PDP added.

  • Oyo APC: Conflicts, Division Continues in Camp Ahead of Elections

Oyo APC: Conflicts, Division Continues in Camp Ahead of Elections

Ahead of the 2023 general elections coming up in February and March, the dust raised by October 2021 wards, local governments and state congresses of the Oyo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the anger that greeted the emergence of Senator Teslim Folarin as the governorship candidate of the party is yet to settle.

The Guardian gathered that while some aggrieved leaders and aspirants angrily defected to other parties, those who stayed back are not pretending over their determination not to work for Folarin in the March 11 governorship election.

Despite committing them to the reconciliation committee’s decision, some of them have expressed displeasure at the manner Folarin and his loyalists have been handling the campaign without carrying them along.

Although, some of them confided in The Guardian that they would have left the party, if not for the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the presidential candidate of the party.

They believe that if Tinubu eventually wins the election, whatever they might have lost in Oyo State could as well be compensated for at the centre.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and APC chieftain, Chief Adeniyi Akintola, who participated in the governorship primary but lost to Folarin, said though he had quit party politics, he is now supporting personalities who can win and engender development.

He disclosed that he is supporting only the presidential candidate of APC and Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.

For Akintola, only Makinde has what it takes to win Oyo State governorship contest, predicting that Tinubu will also be victorious at the election.

He disclosed that core progressives in APC are now with Makinde, saying, “I’m not in position to stop them, I can’t bring them back, they are adults, they are all there at the stadium last Saturday.”

Akintola went as far as reeling out achievements of the incumbent governor to the electorates.

“Two progressive leaders in Ogun State chapter of APC are not together, yes they are still in the same party. I said I am done with partisan politics, so, why should I be convincing someone to change his mind, I do personality, even within my local government, if a candidate is brought to me, I’m interested in those who can add value to ordinary man on the street, I’ve told my loyalists to go and mobilise support for Tinubu,” Akintola said.

The former APC governorship aspirant also debunked the rumour that he has collapsed his political structure for Folarin.

According to report, though Folarin had severally extended hands of fellowship to Akintola after the primary, the legal luminary is obstinate.

Similarly, Oyo State Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Women Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, wife of immediate past governor of the state, the late Abiola Ajimobi, is also alleged to be working against Folarin, despite being a member of the APC.

She is said to be supporting Adelabu instead of Folarin and Kola Daisi, the Oyo South senatorial candidate of the Accord Party instead of Sharafadeen Alli of APC.

Some loyalists of Folarin told The Guardian how Mrs Ajimobi met with members of Oyo State chapters of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Muslim faithful and allegedly distributed fliers of Adelabu and Kola Daisi, and other National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates of Accord party.

She was accused of telling everybody present to vote Tinubu/Shettima in the presidential election but vote for Adelabu and other APC candidates in other elections.

They also accused her of buying a sophisticated telephone set for some APC leaders with the intention of participating in Folarin’s campaign. In fact, Folarin’s supporters are said to be circulating photographs of where she was allegedly distributing Adelabu’s fliers to CAN and Muslim members in her house.

However, one of her aides who pleaded for anonymity dismissed the allegation as baseless.

Aside from Mrs Ajimobi, it was gathered that APC chieftains, such as Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare; erstwhile Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu; Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Adeolu Akande and a host of critical stakeholders of the party have not shown enough commitment towards Folarin’s project.

The disposition of the immediate past state chairman of the party, Chief Akin Oke and former spokesman of the party, Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde, to Folarin’s ambition in the coming gubernatorial poll remains uncertain. They are neither seen with the senator or making any positive comments since the campaign started.

It was gathered that what actually worsened the cold disposition was the alleged taking over of the campaign by new decampees from PDP and sidelining of the old members of the party.

Joseph Tegbe, a former governorship aspirant, who had since left for the PDP is still not happy with the Folarin candidature.

Tegbe is still angry with the manner he alleged Folarin hijacked the party’s structure and ticket, which he called “Jagba.”

Though permutation in the state is that if Adelabu and Folarin agree to work together, re-election of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde may be jeopardised, but Adelabu has persistently said under no circumstances will he work or bow for Folarin.

For Tegbe, while responding to questions on why he left APC for PDP, he said, “No principled person or politician, who meant well for Oyo would remain in APC and work with or for Folarin, considering the shenanigans that characterised the congresses and primary that brought him in as Oyo APC gubernatorial flag bearer.”

Tegbe said instead of staying within APC fold to do anti-party, like some chieftains are currently doing, “I left to where I can realise my ambition to serve our people.”

Part of Mrs Ajimobi’s grouses against Folarin was that when Folarin was said to be down morally and financially after the 2015 governorship election in which he contested and lost on the platform of PDP, it was alleged that former Governor Ajimobi was the one who rehabilitated him and also facilitated his return to APC.

Besides that Folarin and Ajimobi are said to be very close family members and that the senator would have been bearing same name with the former governor if not that he (Folarin) is from the female child in the family.

Mrs Ajimobi is said to be angry with Folarin jettisoning the senatorial ambition of Kolapo Kola-Daisi, who is a son-in law to Ajimobi and supporting Sharafideen Alli, a close associate of former Governor Rasheed Ladoja.

Although, one of Ajimobi’s sons is the APC’s candidate for Ibadan South-West II State Constituency, Mrs Florence irked that her late husband family deserved something higher.

One of the aides of Folarin dismissed the allegations as mere rhetoric and campaign of calumny against his boss.

Yekini Olaniyi explained that the congresses and primary were contested and every contestant threw his weight into the battle.

“And Folarin won in the end. It is not true that the senator has been running a one-man show as alleged. A reconciliation committee headed by former Senator Femi Lanlehin was set up to settle grievances.

“The senator has also met with everybody to appeal and sue for peace with promises to concede whatever is necessary. My plea is that we should work as a team to save Oyo from Makinde.”

In the meantime, the incumbent spokesman of Oyo APC, Olawale Shadare, told newsmen that there is no evidence yet on anybody involved in anti-party activities.

“Those who have defected and those who made public declaration of where they belong are not in our calculation”, he added.

When contacted for comment, Dr Olatunde said he couldn’t force himself to work where he is obviously not needed or invited. Even though Barrister Shittu, who as at last year shelved his anger and promised to work with Folarin, has not been seen in any of the campaigns or make any positive comment.

Senator Lanlehin said he has done his part and submitted his report and the rest is with the party leadership.

Meanwhile, last year, the southwest executive members of APC led by its National Vice Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, visited Oyo to reconcile aggrieved factions. It is doubtful whether the efforts yielded positive results.

Makinde to Win by Landslide, Folarin to Get 11.7%, Adelabu to Get 2.7% — Survey

Survey has revealed that the Executive Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde is going to win his second term bid with wide margin leaving the two major oppositions to very little possible vote rate.

DataHome Research and Communications Ltd. has maintained that Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party will win the 2023 Gubernatorial election in Oyo State in the forthcoming general elections.

This is the high point of the results of a survey conducted by the research and communication firm in Oyo State between November 2 to 30, 2022.

According to a report, the firm added that Makinde will defeat his main challengers to clinch a second term in office if the election was called today.

The survey indicated that Makinde’s performance has been acknowledged by 50.8% to be better than the governors who ruled the state before him (Governor Makinde).

“In fact, the performance has been rated highly with majority rating him as either excellent, very good or good. On account of his performance alone, 65.9% will vote for Governor Makinde again”, the statement read.

The survey, conducted using a multistage sampling technique, allowed the research team to sample the population randomly, based on the hierarchical structure of natural clusters of the state.

“Therefore the sampling took place at local government, ward and village/street/quarter levels. As a result, the study was conducted in 10 selected LGAs (using cluster sampling across the five geopolitical zones), 40 wards and 200 villages/streets. If everyone in the population was selected, the findings will be correct in 19 out of 20 cases as the error margin did not exceed 5%.

“If the gubernatorial election is called today in Oyo State, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde will defeat his main challengers to clinch a second term in office.

“The survey reveals that the people of Oyo State are fired up to massively participate in the coming governorship and presidential elections next month. With all things being equal, half of those who will vote in the gubernatorial election will vote Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s PDP (50.6%), while 11.7% will vote Teslim Folarin’s APC and 2.7% will vote Adebayo Adelabu’s Accord Party.

“However, 20% of the voters have not decided which political party they will vote. The main reason given for this decision is the sterling performance of Governor Makinde since he assumed office in 2019”, the statement read.

The survey further revealed that prior to his election in 2019, majority of voters in Oyo State had faith that Governor Makinde will perform better than other governors before him (65.4%).

According to the survey, “About four years after, Governor Makinde has repaid that faith with sterling performance”.

Coalition Rumor: Your Political Career Was Built on Falsehood, Manipulation – Accord Campaign DG Lambasts Folarin

The Director General of Accord Campaign Council, Oloye Adegboyega Adegoke, has debunked the lie being peddled around by the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Teslim Folarin and his handlers that the Accord gubernatorial candidate, Chief Adebayo Adelabu will be stepping down for him through a coalition.

Oloye Adegoke made the clarification in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday to correct the erroneous misinformation being circulated by the APC ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The Director General said this sort of behavior is not unexpected from a schizophrenic person that has also surrounded himself with some political janjaweed. It is their stock in trade.

Olooye Adegoke alleged that the same fraudulent tactics were used by these same people during the APC primaries, which made the founding leaders and members of the APC in Oyo State to leave the party for Accord to support Chief Adebayo Adelabu.

He maintained that the people of Oyo state are already aware of Senator Folarin’s antics, which cannot take him anywhere in the 2023 general elections.

According to him, “It has come to our notice that the APC gubernatorial candidate in Oyo state, Senator Teslim Folarin, has started his antics again, peddling lies and deceptions that the candidate of our party, Accord, Chief Adebayo Adelabu will be leading a coalition in his favour.

“We want to bring it to the notice of the good people of Oyo State that there was no time Chief Adebayo Adelabu held any meetings with Senator Folarin on Coalition. This was another lie from a political schizophrenic whose political career was built on falsehood and manipulations.

“Chief Adebayo Adelabu is contesting to win the governorship election in Oyo state under Accord. Chief Adelabu is a known technocrat, corporate guru, and business turnaround expert who has excelled in both the the private and public sectors. All his businesses are domiciled in Oyo state, unlike the APC candidate whose means of livelihood was unknown before joining politics, and even now, when he is serving at the Red Chamber for the third term, he cannot point to any business or investment where he has employed minimum five people in Oyo State.

“Adelabu business addresses are known to the good people of Oyo state, while the APC governorship candidate has no second address.

We are using this medium to tell everyone that Senator Folarin is at it again, but this time around, he will fail woefully”.

The Director of Youth Mobilisation for the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Teslim Folarin’s campaign organisation, Hon Adekola Adeoye has dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Adekola, who was a former youth leader of the PDP and left the party earlier in May following a minor disagreement, has returned to his former party to garner support for the reelection of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde.

Confirming his defection to newsmen, the current PDP Youth leader, Hon Michael Ogunsina noted that Adeoye has returned to the party officially.

Ogunsina said: “We have been talking for some time and we both agreed that there is no place like home.

“He is willing, ready and prepared to work for the reelection of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde”, he added.

Akala Never Supported Teslim Folarin’s Gubernatorial Ambition — Open Salawu Reveals

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Engineer Muftau Open Salawu has revealed that the Late APC chieftain and former governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala was openly against the gubernatorial ambition of the APC governorship candidate for the 2023 elections, Teslim Folarin.

Open Salami noted that this caused an inflammatory battle between Folarin and Late Alao Akala.

Open Salawu who is the Babalaje of Ogbomosoland made this known in a statement personally signed by him and made available to newsmen on Sunday.

He said he asked Late Former Governor Alao-Akala for his position on the 2023 governorship election and Akala replied point blank that is not Teslim.

The Waziri Jari Nupe also said that Governor ‘Seyi Makinde deserves a second term adding that if Late Governor Alao-Akala were to be alive, he would support Governor ‘Seyi Makinde for a second term.

The statement read: “2023 election will come with packages of surprises to all political parties. Of course, it wasn’t good news for the All Progressives Congress, APC, going by the reports of strategists and the effects of national politics and economics. President Muhammad Buhari may mean well initially but at some point, the government lost it completely. How would they explain naira to a dollar that was 250 and now 750 (300% increase) or a bag of rice that was less than 10,000 in 2015 and is now almost 50,000.

“The security situation is not better either. I hope we will have the courage to review the constitution of the country and reduce the exclusive list by allowing the state and local governments to be more operational.

“Traditionally, Oyo State is a very complex state when it comes to politics and election generally but all early indications of the dynamics to come in next year’s election are in favour of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde.

“GSM deserves the second term for continuity, consistency productivity, and progress of Oyo State.

“GSM secured sole ownership of LAUTECH, construct a road that connects Ogbomoso to Iseyin, we have a Chief of Staff and he gave Otunba Christopher Alao-Akala a befitting burial.

There was an inflammatory battle between Senator Teslim and former Governor Akala Since 2011 when Teslim aborted the second term of Akala and until his death, he was also not in support of Teslim’s Governorship ambition.

“I did ask late Governor Akala about the position for the 2023 Governorship election in Oyo State and he said point blank that is not Teslim.
