Not less than three persons have been reported dead after a trailer laden with soft drinks products crush them to death at the Total Garden area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the victims of the accident; a commercial motorcyclist and his two passengers were crushed when the trailer lost control of its braking system.
An eye witness, Mr. Joel Idowu, stated that the fully-loaded trailer killed the victims in front of BOVAS Filling Station while the cyclist was trying to overtake the truck.
According to Idowu, some irate adolescents and motorcyclists attempted to set fire to the trailer, Security officers, he claimed, were preventing them by shooting randomly into the air to terrify them.
Normalcy has since returned to the neighborhood after police had hauled the vehicle to their station and the victims’ bodies had been transported to the morgue.
Mrs. Uche Chukwurah, the state’s Sector Commander for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), verified the event in a phone chat with NAN.
According to Chukwurah, the collision involved five people, three of whom were confirmed dead and two others injured.
The trailer’s brake failure, she said, was the most likely cause of the accident.
The injured were being treated at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, while the dead were being deposited at the same hospital’s morgue, the sector Commander stated.
