As Nigeria’s, on Tuesday, recorded a highest daily rise in Coronavirus infection cases since August, bringing the total number of infected people to 70,000, health officials have started to worry over the lackadaisical attitude of Nigerians towards covid-19 preventive measures.
While reacting to the development, the Oyo State Coordinator, COVID-19 Emergency Operation Centers, Dr. Olabode Oladipo in a chat with Oyo Affairs correspondent, raised fears of a second wave of the pandemic.
According to Dr. Olabode, the resurgence in infections after weeks of low numbers indicated a fire on the mountain which if care is not taken, the Covid-19 pandemic may explode again.
He stressed that with the surge in international travels, relaxation of curfews, and preparation for the festive season, there may be a serious spark of Covid-19 infection in the country.
The state’s Coordinator who maintained that Oyo state like every other State in Nigeria is not exenpted from the second wave of the pandemic, appealed to residents of the state to go back to the new normal and adhere strictly to all the Covid-19 preventive measures issued by the government in a bid to spread joy during the yuletide and not a virus.
He, however, hinted that all necessary machinery has been put in motion by the Oyo state Covid-19 task force headed by governor Seyi Makinde to present the second wave of the pandemic in the state.
