Former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Alao Akala has taken a jibe at incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde saying that he did not borrow any money or leave any debt behind when he was the Governor of the State.
Akala said this earlier today during a live radio interview on Splash FM.
He said, “I was the only Governor who did not borrow a kobo from any bank and who did not leave any debt behind when leaving the office. I was termed the ATM Governor because I knew how to manage the resources in the state. When a Governor knows how to mange both human and financial resources, hebwill be termed ATM just like me. I wasn’t dashing people money, I made money to be in circulation in Oyo State.
“I did that by making anything accruable to Oyo State Government reside in Oyo State, be it federal allocation or anything else. I did not give contract to anyone outside Oyo State. Listen to me very well, I did not give contract to anyone staying outside Oyo State. Everything was being done here. That was what made my government different from the rest.
When quizzed about being termed the “Oyato Governor”, Akala said he did not know how the name came about adding that he just heard people commenting about his different style of goverance and before he knew it, he was tagged Oyato.
He said, “the meaning of Oyato is different style, so I guess that means people were talking about the fact that I had parted from the way the people were using to being governed.”
“So you see, Government is about having experience, knowing how to manage resources and cutting your coat according to your cloth not your size. That was exactly what I did.”
