Candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, Islamiyat Abdulkadir has noted that her free medical outreach was violently disrupted on Monday by over 100 suspected thugs in the Saabo Market area of Ibadan.
According to her in a statement made available to newsmen, the incident occurred opposite the King’s Palace, where a crowd of residents had gathered to benefit from free healthcare services, including medical consultations, drugs and basic tests.
She said witnesses recounted that the atmosphere turned chaotic when the hoodlums arrived in groups, shouting and destroying medical equipment.
Patients and health workers reportedly fled in panic as tables were overturned and supplies scattered on the ground.
Abdulkadir said the outreach was part of her community support programme aimed at improving access to healthcare in Ibadan North.
“This act is not only a direct attack on me and my campaign, but a shameful assault on the good people of Ibadan North who only came out to receive medical care,” she stated.
The SDP candidate called on the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the attack, apprehend those responsible, and ensure they face justice.
