Farmers-Herders Crisis: Hausa/Fulani Youths Visit Olubadan, Deny Promoting Ethnic Crisis in Oyo

About 200 Hausa/Fulani youths have stormed the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, over the ethnic dimension the farmers-herders crisis in the state has taken.

Oba Adetunji who made this known on Wednesday while speaking with a team of newmen who paid him a visit at his palace said that the youths while expressing their displeasure at how things have degenerated into in the state told him that they were born and raised in Ibadan, highlighting that the city is their home and that they have nowhere else to call home.

Oba Adetunji noted that the youths, numbering about 200, said any time they travel to their states of origin in the north, their relations always ask them when they plan to return to Ibadan which they call their home.

Oba Adetunji reiterated that Ibadan is home to virtually all tribes in Nigeria, adding that the city has witnessed tremendous development in his five-year tenure.

He said the youths of northern extraction insisted that Ibadan is their home, and that all they seek is the peace and prosperity of the city.

They urged the monarch to appeal to those promoting ethnic crisis to desist because they are all Ibadan indigenes.

Recall that a recent crisis which crippled activities in the popular Sasa market almost degenerated into a tribal clash when a particular man of northern extraction had a minor altercation with a pregnant woman resulting in the castigation of many Hausa/Fulani in the market since the market largely populated by Hausa/Fulani men.

The Olubadan condemned ethnic profiling to crimes, saying Ibadan is home to all and sundry as long as they shun criminality.
