Ibadan Poly Holds 39th Convocation Ceremony Today

The Polytechnic, Ibadan, will today, Friday, 14 February 2025, hold its 39th convocation ceremony at the institution’s 1,000-seater hall along the North/South Road.

The Visitor to the institution, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour for the event.

Ahead of the convocation, a series of activities have been scheduled and carried out. A Jumat service was held at the institution’s Central Mosque on Friday, 7 February, followed by a Christian service at The Lord’s Chapel on Sunday, 9 February.

On Wednesday, 12 February, former UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, delivered the convocation lecture titled “Emerging Technological Advancement, National Development and Growth in the 21st Century: Repositioning Nigerian Polytechnics.”

The Acting Rector, Dr Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, revealed during a press briefing that all certificates for the 2023/24 graduands have been duly signed and will be available for collection immediately after the ceremony. However, he noted that thousands of certificates from previous graduates remain uncollected, with the institution considering imposing fines for delays in collection.

Dr Lasisi also confirmed that security arrangements for the event are robust. In addition to the institution’s internal security unit, external agencies such as the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Services, and Amotekun will be deployed to ensure a peaceful and orderly convocation.
