Tanker Carrying 33,000 Litres of PMS Explodes After Colliding with Vehicles in Ibadan

A Petroleum tanker carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as Petrol on Thursday lost control and collided with other vehicles, resulting in a massive explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Report gathered that the sad incident occurred at Celica Junction, New Ife Express -Way, Ibadan.

The tanker driver lost control of the vehicle while in motion due to brake failure, and crashed into other vehicles on the road. The impact sparked a massive fire outbreak that engulfed the tanker and surrounding vehicles.

No casualty was recorded but the fire affected the trailer tanker and a car while a Jeep was hit by the trailer into the nearby gutter.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident to our correspondence.

He said; “The fire incident was reported at exactly 18:27hr on Thursday 17th July, 2025 through telephone call and CFS Awoleke to the fire incident at the above address.

“A crew of Firemen led by ACFS Adeniyi Adesina promptly deployed to the scene of incident.On arrival , it was a petrol trailer tanker loaded with 33,000 litres capacity of premium motor spirit (PMS ) and a car engulfed by fire.

”The Firemen swiftly swung into action by applying chemical foam compound and restricted the fire from spreading to the nearby NNPC petrol station and surrounding properties.

However, the fire was jointly extinguished with the officers from Federal Fire Service.

Also, the fire incident was as a result of failure of breaking in the system of the truck whist on motion which made the vehicle lose control, hit a Prado jeep and a car, then fell an open road and caught fire.

No casualty was recorded but the fire affected the trailer tanker and a car while a Jeep was hit by the trailer into the nearby gutter.

The fire services were able to save the NNPC filling station and nearby properties from the devastating fire.

Equally, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Reform/Chairman, Hon Maroof Akinwande assured the public that they should go on their daily activities without fear as the fire has been completely extinguished.

In attendance.for security and traffic covers were; Director Operations Oyo State Fire Services Agency Engr .I.A.Adeleke, together with Nigeria Police Force Egbeda Division, NSCDC, Amotekun and OYRTMA respectively.
