Odidiomo Condemns Attack on Oseni’s Campaign Train, Calls for Peace and Investigation

The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide Odidiomo, has condemned the reported attack on the campaign train of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the district, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, at Agbaje Market, Ibadan North-West Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Hon. Odidiomo, in a statement issued on Thursday, described the reported incident as unfortunate and deeply concerning, stressing that political differences should never degenerate into violence or threaten the safety and freedom of citizens.

He also categorically dissociated himself, his campaign organisation and his supporters from the reported attack, stressing that neither he nor anyone acting on his behalf had any involvement in the incident.

“We categorically dissociate ourselves from the reported attack on the campaign train of Hon. Aderemi Oseni at Agbaje Market. Neither myself, my campaign organisation nor anyone acting on my behalf had any involvement whatsoever in the incident.

“I have always believed that political contests should be about ideas, records, programmes and the capacity to serve the people. Violence has no place in our politics, and I will never support, sponsor or encourage any act capable of threatening the life or property of any citizen,” he said.

Odidiomo said the circumstances surrounding the incident should be thoroughly established through a proper investigation rather than through speculation or the circulation of unverified claims.

He therefore called on the Oyo State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and make their findings public.

“The appropriate response to an incident of this nature is investigation, not accusation. I therefore call on the security agencies to conduct a comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigation and establish exactly what happened, who was responsible and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Anyone found to have participated in or sponsored violence should face the full weight of the law, irrespective of political affiliation. At the same time, nobody should be accused or held responsible without credible evidence,” he added.

The APM candidate appealed to all political actors, supporters and residents of Oyo South to remain calm and refrain from actions or statements capable of escalating tension in the district.

He said the people of Oyo South deserved a peaceful political environment in which candidates could freely engage voters and present their programmes, while voters should be allowed to make their choices without intimidation or fear.

“Our people deserve peace. They deserve the freedom to listen to different candidates, ask questions, compare programmes and ultimately make their choices without fear.

“We may belong to different political parties and have different aspirations, but we remain brothers and sisters from the same communities. Whatever our political differences, we must not lose sight of the fact that Oyo South belongs to all of us,” Odidiomo said.

He further urged his supporters and campaign team to remain peaceful, disciplined and law-abiding throughout the political season, warning against retaliation, provocation or the circulation of inflammatory information.

“As we approach the 2027 elections, I urge our supporters to remain calm and law-abiding. Do not retaliate, do not engage in violence and do not circulate unverified information. We must allow the security agencies to do their work and allow the people to decide freely,” he said.

Odidiomo also expressed concern over attempts to attribute acts of violence to political actors without first establishing the facts, saying such claims could further inflame political tensions and undermine peaceful democratic participation.

He reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful engagement and grassroots consultation across Oyo South, noting that his campaign would continue to engage residents, traders, community leaders, youth and other stakeholders on issues affecting their communities.

“We will continue to engage our people peacefully. We will continue to listen to their concerns and present our vision for a better Oyo South. Our politics must be about service, development and the future of our people, not violence.

“I call on all candidates and political stakeholders to place the peace and unity of Oyo South above personal or partisan interests. We can compete vigorously while still respecting one another and protecting the peace of our communities,” Odidiomo stated.

He wished those affected by the reported incident well and reiterated his call for calm, unity and peaceful political participation as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
