Oyo State governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), ‘Seyi Makinde, has congratulated Nigeria’s Under-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, on their historic triumph at the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, describing the achievement as a reflection of the talent, resilience and unity of Nigerians.
Makinde said the victory demonstrated the determination, discipline and teamwork of the young players, adding that their success should inspire Nigerians to embrace unity and collective responsibility in building a stronger nation.
According to Makinde, in a statement issued on Sunday, November 8, by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Flamingos’ achievement showed that Nigerian youths could attain greatness when provided with the right support and opportunities.
He said the team’s success went beyond winning a trophy, as it offered an important lesson on the power of unity, teamwork and a common purpose in overcoming challenges.
Makinde urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the players, who stood together through difficult moments during the competition, and embrace cohesion, mutual respect and collective commitment to national development.
He said, “Just as the Flamingos stood together through moments of pressure, our nation must continue to embrace cohesion, mutual respect and collective purpose in building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.”
The governor also congratulated the players, coaches, families, supporters and Nigerians who supported the team, expressing hope that the victory would motivate more young people to dream big, work hard and believe in their potential.
He described the triumph as a proud moment for the country and urged the next generation of Nigerian athletes to see it as proof of what they could achieve through dedication and determination.
