An aide to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Comrade Femi Awogboro, has dismissed reports alleging that leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former governors Adebisi Akande and Olusegun Osoba, asked Adelabu to drop his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
Awogboro described the report as “sponsored” and driven by individuals who fear Adelabu’s emergence as the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
He stated that Akande and Osoba remain strong supporters and mentors to the minister and would not ask him to abandon his long-standing ambition.
“Chief Akande and Chief Osoba believe strongly in Adelabu’s capacity to uphold progressive ideals in Oyo State. They have consistently supported and encouraged him since his exit from the Central Bank of Nigeria to pursue a career in politics,” he said.
Awogboro also refuted claims that APC South-West leaders held a meeting with Adelabu in Lagos to discuss his ambition and its implications for party unity and President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, insisting that no such meeting took place.
He maintained that Adelabu enjoys widespread support across the six geopolitical zones of Oyo State, citing his track record as a businessman, administrator, and politician.
“Adelabu has positively touched many lives. His support for youths, widows, and the less privileged across the state cannot be overemphasized. Despite attempts by some individuals to discredit him, he continues to gain acceptance due to the love people have for him,” he added.
Awogboro warned those spreading false information to desist, stressing that no amount of character assassination would deter the minister from pursuing his ambition.
He also urged media organisations to verify the authenticity of reports before publication.
“I appeal to media houses to be cautious and always verify the authenticity of any information before publishing,” he said.
Awogboro further called on residents of the state to continue supporting the minister, expressing confidence that Adelabu would deliver on his promises if elected.
