Another Ogbomoso Born, Professor Gboyega Dies at 76

Ogbomoso has yet again been thrown into mourning as it loses another illustrious son, Prof. Alex Gboyega, who was a renowned professor of political science, and a retiree from the University of Ibadan.

The Ogbomoso-born, who lived in Ibadan, was said to have died few hours before Adebayo Alao-Akala, his kinsman and former governor of Oyo state, who also died in the early hours of Wednesday.

Gboyega’s death brings to four, the demise of illustrious indigenes of the ancient town.

Exactly a month ago, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Soun of Ogbomosoland, joined his ancestors after which his eldest daughter, Prof. Taibat Danmole, died 28 days after.

Today, two illustrious sons — Gboyega and Alao-Akala died hours apart.

As an affable academic of high repute and a clear sighted leader of thought who loved Ogbomoso passionately, Gboyega placed his vast intellectual acumen at the service of his community, to the very last.
