ASUU STRIKE: Governor Makinde Suspends ‘No Work, No Pay’ Policy for LAUTECH Lecturers

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has suspended the ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy for workers at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH.

This was made known shortly after the governor’s meeting with the Unions of the institution comprising of Academic Staff Union (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), and National Association of Academic Technologists

Recall Gov. Makinde had in June announced the withholding of subvention of lectures of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH who refused to resume work despite the directive of the state government for the resumption of academic activities in the university.

The governor noted that if the lecturers do not go back to work, the State government would not pay for their subvention.

Following the meeting of the institution’s stakeholders with the governor, to discuss school resumption and the renaming of the institution to Ladoke Akintola University (LAU), the governor announced the lifting of the suspension on “No work No pay” for the striking lecturers.

A reliable source said the subvention of May and June would be released soon while academic activities and other imbroglios would be a thing to be put to rest soon, as efforts are now in top gear to restore parity.

When contacted, the Students Union President, Anuoluwa said he has appealed to His Excellency, Seyi Makinde, on behalf of students to hasten their resumption before the end of the month.

Those in attendance include Oyo Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, other government functionaries including a lecturer from Agricultural Faculties, Dr. Saheed and others.
