Students, well-wishers and academia have showered encomium on Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi as she bows out as the 12th Registrar of the University of Ibadan (UI), following the expiration of her five year tenure.
Tributes and accolades were showered on her during an inauguration and send-forth ceremony organised for the incoming and outgoing Registrars in Trenchard Hall of the premier university.
The University’s Vice-Chancellor (VC), Professor Kayode Adebowale, in his remarks described Mrs Faluyi as an astute administrator, a leader par excellence and an effective manager of human and material resources.
Adebowale, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Ezekiel Ayoola; noted that Mrs Faluyi’s journey to the pinnacle of her career was characterised by hard work, readiness to learn, unflinching commitment, loyalty to the system, a deep knowledge of the traditions and culture of the university as well as the desire to do the right thing and stand by the truth always.
Goodwill messages were not in short supply from colleagues who extolled her virtues and lauded her intellectual capacity as well as administrative dexterity.
The ceremony featured the symbolic handing over of the baton of leadership of the University Registry to the incoming Registrar, Mr Ganiyu Oke Saliu.
Mr Saliu promised to uphold the traditions of the University and to take the Registry and the University to higher heights.
He solicited the support and cooperation of all staff of the university for a successful tenure. He promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.
At the ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Aderonke Baiyeroju; the Bursar, Mr A. Popoola; the University Librarian, Dr Mercy Iroaganachi; Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun; Provost, Postgraduate College, Prof. A.S.O. Ogunjuyigbe; former Registrars, Chief Moji Ladipo and Mrs. Omotayo Ikotun; members of the families of the incoming and outgoing Registrars; religious leaders; friends; colleagues and well-wishers.
Immediately after his symbolic inauguration, Saliu, the outgoing Registrar, Mrs Faluyi; family members, and other well-wishers assembled at the Chapel of the Resurrection for an inauguration service.
Prayers were offered for a successful tenure for the new registrar.
He was however, charged to put the fear of God into whatever he does, to be fair and just as well as uphold the traditions of excellence for which the University of Ibadan is known for.
In the meantime, Mrs Faluyi’s tenure ends on Monday, 10 April 2023, while Mr Saliu is expected to assume duties on Tuesday, 11 April 2023, for a five-year tenure in the first instance.
The appointment of Saliu as the 13th Registrar of the University of Ibadan, was approved by the Governing Council of the university.
