Governor Seyi Makinde Declares GSM Tennis Championship 2020 Open

The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has declared open GSM Tennis Championship 2020.

Governor Makinde while declaring the maiden Edition of the tennis championship open at the Lawn Tennis Section of the Ibadan Recreation Club, shown concern over the Nation’s inability to have a player among the big names of the game in the world, noting that his ambition was to discover, nurture and groom rising stars that will make Nigeria proud in the tennis and other games in the world of sports.

Governor Makinde who honored a brief encounter with the former Nigeria number one tennis player for a decade, Babalola Abdulmumeen, and a rising star, Mubarak Ganiyu, defeated his chief of staff, Bisi Ilaka in the exhibition game to open the championship.

In his remark, Oyo State commissioner for youth and sports, Mr. Seun Fakorede, commended governor Seyi Makinde for his immense contribution to the development of youth and sports, adding that it will help in uplifting the economy of the state.

Oyo Affairs correspondent gathered that the GSM Tennis championship 2020 which kicked off this Tuesday will end on Thursday, 24th of December, 2021 with 112 participants across the state to slug it out among themselves in the three categories with standard prizes for the pro-categories.
