The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has announced that the state government has resolved to formally write the National University Commission to transform LAUTECH to a conventional University in other to accommodate more courses such as Law and others.
Makinde revealed this on Thursday while receiving the report of the negotiation committee for the sole ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
Engineer Seyi Makinde also announced the establishment of College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State.
It would be recalled that the committee for the separation of ownership from Oyo State was inaugurated on November 7th, 2019 which was barely 6 months the Governor Makinde assumed office
The governor, who was full of praise to the committee under the chairmanship of Professor Ayodeji Omole, commended the heroic discharge of duties with integrity and courage.
He appreciated the committee on behalf of himself, the Oyo State Executive Council, the staff and students of LAUTECH, the people of Ogbomoso in particular and the good people of Oyo State as a whole, for getting the job done within the given time-frame.
He, however, explained that the severance of relationship is not going to negatively impact the students and staff from Osun State but to foster better administration and advancement of LAUTECH, as an institution, and to achieve the goal of his government towards making it a world-class university.
The governor also used the opportunity to thank the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, for putting aside all differences, especially partisan politics all through the negotiations.
While also commending the versatility of NUC on the negotiations, Governor Makinde said he have signed the LAUTECH, Ogbomoso Bill 2020 into law and that his administration will apply to the NUC to convert from a University of Technology to a conventional University.
