Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The meeting, which took place at the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, was conducted away from the media, sparking fresh political speculations over its significance and possible implications ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sources within the Oyo State Government disclosed that Obi’s visit formed part of his ongoing nationwide consultations with prominent opposition leaders amid growing discussions on the possibility of a united political front and the emergence of a consensus presidential candidate ahead of the next election cycle.
Although details of the discussions were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, insiders hinted that the engagement focused on national issues, governance, economic challenges, and the need for strategic collaboration among political leaders concerned about the country’s future direction.
The meeting comes at a time when opposition figures across different political parties have intensified consultations and alliance talks in response to growing national conversations about coalition-building ahead of 2027.
Makinde, who remains one of the influential figures within the Peoples Democratic Party, has repeatedly advocated issue-based politics, good governance, and stronger collaboration among leaders committed to national development.
Obi, on the other hand, has sustained his visibility in national discourse through engagements on economic reforms, accountability in governance, and inclusive leadership, while also maintaining strong support among many Nigerians following the 2023 presidential election.
