Oyo Assembly Gives 9-Day Ultimatum to LG Caretaker Chairmen to Submit Report

The Oyo State House of Assembly has given Local Government and Local Council Development Areas caretaker chairmen in the state up till 23rd of October, 2020 to submit a comprehensive report on the state of earthmoving equipment in their councils to the house or face outright suspension.

The House announced this on Wednesday while considering the interim report of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters presented by its Chairman, Hon Segun Popoola, representing Ibadan Southeast II.

The House gave the ultimatum following the failure of a greater number of LGs and LCDAs Caretaker chairmen in the state to submit the report as earlier directed by the house.

According to Hon Popoola, only three Local Governments, Irepodun, Ibarapa Central, and Atisbo South submitted their reports, while others shunned the house directive.

The Speaker, Oyo State house of assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin condemned the inability of the Chairmen and the Heads of Local Government Administration to submit the report which is expected to highlight the condition of the earth moving equipment, noting that the House will at the expiration of the ultimatum suspend any caretaker local government chairman or Local Council Development Area chairperson that fail to comply with the house directive.

According to Oyo Affairs correspondent, the House had on the 18th of August, 2020 during plenary, directed all the 33 LGs and 35 LCDAs in Oyo State to submit a detailed report of earthmoving equipment in their domain to the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

The report is expected to contain the list of graders, bulldozers, flat-bed trucks, and other earth-moving equipment in their council areas, to ascertain their condition and level of functionality.
