Oyo Assembly Screens, Approves OYSIEC Board Members’ Nominees

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday, screened and approved the eight eminent personalities nominated by the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde to constitute the board members, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC.

The nominated board members which would be saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the conduct of elections into local government areas of the state were approved by the House after a thorough screening and deliberation.

The eight-member-board has Barrister Isiaka Olagunju as Chairman while Comrade Adeniyi Afeez, Alhaja Ganiyat Saka, Mr Olanrewaju Emmanuel, Chief Kunle Agboola, Mr Remi Ayoade, Mr Sunday Falana and Mr Adeojo Elias are members.

In his remark, the speaker, Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adebo Ogundoyin maintained that the nominees were approved based on merit.

Similarly, the Oyo State House of Assembly has granted the request of Governor Seyi Makinde to access eight hundred million naira loan facility for the Oyo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) as counterpart fund to attract the sum of two billion, nine hundred and sixty-seven million, seven hundred thousand nairas from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.

The Speaker of the House, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin gave the approval shortly after the house considered the request forwarded to the Legislature by the state governor.

The Speaker while reading the request stressed the importance of good portable water supply to the people adding that most communities in the state lack water to drink and use for other purposes.

As parts of its order of the day, the house observed the first and second reading of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency Bill, 2020.

A bill for a law to repeal the Oyo State Fire Services Law cap 49 laws of Oyo state 2000 and to enact the Oyo State Fire Services Agency Law, 2020: to provide for the establishment of the fire authority and to provide for the combination of such authorities for fire fighting purposes and other matters connected therewith.
