See Oyo@50 Anniversary as a call to Responsibility, Unity and Service – Makinde

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde has charged the people of the State to see the 50th anniversary of the state as a call to responsibility, unity and service.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Oyo State @ 50 Celebration, held at the International Conference Center, University of Ibadan, on Monday, Governor Makinde, said the Golden Jubilee was not just a celebration of the past, but a moment to renew commitment to building a stronger future for the state.

The Governor outlined key pledges for the next 50 years, including building a stronger and more competitive economy that creates jobs, attracts investment and expands opportunities.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, quality education, strong institutions, peace, security, fiscal responsibility and good governance, assuring that Oyo State will remain safe, stable and open for business and investment.

Governor Makinde, commended security agencies in the state for their sacrifices and dedication, and called on all residents to participate in the week-long anniversary activities.

Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman of the Oyo @ 50th Planning Committee, Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, highlighted the historical significance, leadership, and progress of the state, since inception.

He emphasized the current administration’s role in redefining governance and driving development, adding that the celebration is a declaration of intent for progress.

In his remarks, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who reflected on the political actors and unsung heroes who shaped the past and present Oyo State, emphasized on the importance of remembering individuals and continuity of their work for a better future.

The event which was attended by Family members of former Governors, Traditional and Religious leaders, top government functionaries, political gladiators, featured poetic performance by students of Baptist Secondary School, Ago-Are, a documentary highlighting the history and development of Oyo State, cutting of the anniversary cake, as well as captivating traditional drum performances.
