11 Land in Jail Over Armed Robbery in Ibadan

The Oyo state Magistrates’ Court sitting in Iyaganku in Ibadan has remanded 11 individuals in a correctional institution for suspected armed robbery.

The defendants are Musa Abdulahi, 23, Abdulahi Sodiq, 26, Umaru Dama, 27, Usman Sule, 23, Sule Abubakar, 21, Muhammadu Abdulahi, 30, Muhammed Bello, 25, and Musa Amu, 22.

Others include Muhammed Abdulahi, 23, Abu Abdulahi, 30, and Muhammadu Abubakar, 28. They are on trial for one count of armed robbery.

Gladys Oladele, the Magistrate in his verdict declined to hear the defendants’ plea due to a lack of jurisdiction.

She instructed that the police return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal guidance. She then deferred the matter until November 14 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecution, Insp Femi Omilana, informed the court that the defendants committed the act on September 13 at 9.00 a.m. in the Saki region of Oyo State.

Omilana said that the defendants, armed with a rifle and cutlasses, robbed two victims of N340,000 in items.

According to him, the defendants stole three bags of Soya beans worth N60,000 from Mr Moshood Isau and a motorbike worth N280,000 from Mr Ibrahim Yuma.
