13th Year Anniversary Tribute to 15th Onà-Onibode of Igboho Land

Every 24th of December happens to be a day of rebirth of culture and history for the people of Igboho in general. Hitherto, there was political and social upheaval in the town and there was also vacancy on Onà-Onibode throne which made the then sitting Governor, late Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala to summon “Who is Who” in the town to a meeting for a brief on what led to the brouhaha. As someone who is looking for peace and development of his town, a man (name withheld) rose up and nipped it in the bud by analyzing the situation by saying in an event “we have three classrooms and one has no teacher, definitely the one with no teacher will be disturbing others others and possibly violence may erupted”. That was the beginning of the journey to the throne by HRM. Ọba Abdul Rashid Adetoyese Anikulapo Jayeola lll.

Although, all efforts for the kingmakers to sit was frustrated and this later made the Governor to invite all the kingmakers over to his office in Ibadan and history was made as the second Ọba in Oyo State to be selected in the presence of Governor (After late Ọba Lamidi Olayiwola Adéyemí lll, Alaafin of Oyo).

However, after the successful selection of the the Prince Abdul Rashid Adetoyese Jayeola as the new Onà-Onibode of Igboho here comes the D-Day 24th December of 2019, when the traditional installation was officially done. The day was full with controversial as majority was not satisfied with the venue of the installation on one part and also people did not believe that late Ọba Lamidi Olayiwola Adéyemí lll, Alaafin of Oyo couldn’t come for mere installation.

As a matter of fact, the installation ceremony was held at the original venue (Igbo Ọba) and late Alaafin of Oyo attended the colourful ceremony which made people of the town felt new air of peace, hope and tranquility. The journey that began with happiness and fresh breath across all the quarters in Igboho and Oorelope Local Government as the new Onà-Onibode of Igboho started to traverse amongst the foremost traditional rulers in Nigeria across the globe.

Nevertheless, as the colourful as the installation ceremony was, it was the 10th year Anniversary that put smiles on all Igboho indigenes, apart from the dignitaries that graced the occasion, official crowning of the HRM Ọba Abdul Rashid Adetoyese Anikulapo Jayeola lll by Alaafin of Oyo after the approval of Oyo State Government made the event became a memorable one for everyone in the town.

Interestingly, the last 13 years has been remarkable to all in the town and the throne in particular. Therefore, there is nothing much again to write than to wish Kábíyèsí more prosperous years on his forefathers throne and also pray the town witness more prosperity under his auspices.

Long live Ọnà-Onibode of Igboho, Long Live Igboho, Long Live Oyo State, Long Live Nigeria.
