2022 Budget: Obafemi Awolowo Stadium to get facelift worth N143m

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has allocated N143m for the renovation of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.

This was contained in the 2022 budget submitted by the President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly on October 7.

The budget breakdown, which was seen by newsmen, showed that N35m would be spent on repairing the swimming pool.

Many other projects in the stadium which were included in the 2022 budget are; the repair of the roof structure and roof covering of the main bowl, which would cost N10m, general running and routine maintenance cost (changing of entrance gate, main bowl toilets, degrassing, vegetation control) for N30m, and the reconstruction of the collapsed portion of the perimeter fence wall and overlay of internal paths and driveway which would cost N10m.

Others are provision of natural playing turf, preconstruction of athletes running tracks and rehabilitation of functional equipment at main bowl for N48m and general maintenance of the stadium, which would cost N10m.

Recall that Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde had reportedly spent N5.5bn to remodel the state-owned Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan which was commissioned on September 1.
