2023: Christians Need To Get Involved In Politics For A Better Nigeria — Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on Christians in the country to exercise their franchise in 2023 if the Church hopes for what he described as perfection and completeness in Nigeria.

The Governor said this at the thanksgiving service to mark the election of Bishop Francis Wale-Oke as the 7th President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) held at the Precious Cornerstone University, Ibadan Campus on Sunday.

According to Gov Makinde, the 2023 election would be the 7th election since the inception of the 1999 Republic.

He consequently urged Christians to come out to vote en masse in 2023 and also encourage fellow Christians who are worthy and capable of leadership roles to run for political positions

He said, “I want to appeal to all of us today, we have to do our duty by praying for this country and people in leadership positions. What is absolutely important and critical is the fact that in the midst of all of this confusion, we have to be clear-headed. We have to do things that will solve this problem.

“Just as God has given the 7th President of CAN and the 7th President of PFN to us at this point in Nigeria for perfection and completeness, so also, I am believing God that He will do the same thing for us in the next election.

“We started this democratic experiment in 1999. This Republic started in 1999. Up until 2019, we’ve had 6 elections, the 7th election is going to be in 2023.

“So, if we want perfection and completeness, the church must get involved.

“If we want leaders to get thrown up who will do the bidding of God, who will serve the people, we must not allow the next opportunity to slip by.

“I was anointed right here in this church and for this tenure, I will serve God, I will serve the people of Oyo State.

“We have to get leaders that will also do that and there are many of them in our churches. We only need to encourage them and make up our mind that now, we need to get leaders that will serve the people.”

Meanwhile, Makinde said he has no reason to be scared by anyone or any challenge being witnessed by the state as he is a Governor surrounded by three Presidents with spiritual powers.

The Governor said, “I am just the Governor of Oyo State and in this same Oyo State, I have the President, not Governor, but President of CAN. I also have the President of PFN and just last week, I was at the inaugural and duty commencement service of the President of CAC Worldwide in this same Oyo state.

“You can all agree with me that my work has already been made easy.

“If you are a Governor surrounded by 3 Presidents, with spiritual powers, who am I to be afraid of?

“So, we are indeed blessed in Oyo state.

“We can all attest to the uniqueness of the number 7.

“I reflected on the fact that the new CAN and PFN President are both the 7th President of each organisation.

“7th President of CAN, then, the 7th President of PFN.

“We commit all the Presidents around here unto God’s hands and we know that the mantle of leadership handed over to them will be well-utilised until they hand over to their successors”, he concluded.
