4 Die, 14 Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Accident

No fewer than four persons have reportedly died on Sunday, in an accident involving a Mazda bus and a truck at Lufwape, on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

14 other persons were also reported to have sustained injuries.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun state, Ahmed Umar, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Umar disclosed that the incident occurred around 3:40pm and was caused by the excessive speed and dangerous driving on the part of the truck driver.

According to him, 20 people were involved in the accident comprising 12 males and eight females, with eight males and six females sustaining injuries while two men and two women died in the accident.

“The truck driver drove dangerously, which made the Mazda bus lose control due to speed and crashed on the highway; and unfortunately the truck escaped,” he said.

He added that the injured victims were taken to Idera Hospital, Sagamu for treatment while the deceased were deposited at the same hospital mortuary.

Umar therefore cautioned motorists on dangerous driving especially during the Yuletide season, saying life has no duplicate.

He advised the motoring public to drive defensively, maintain safe speed and obey traffic rules and regulations.
