A 48-year-old man, Peter Baba Danasin, was reportedly killed by suspected attackers while travelling with his wife through an isolated route in the Igbojaye area of Oyo State.
The incident reportedly happened at about 4pm as the couple travelled from their residence in Budo Seweje.
The assailants were said to have emerged unexpectedly from the bush and launched an attack on the couple.
While Danasin was overpowered and inflicted with several machete wounds, his wife reportedly managed to escape from the scene.
The victim allegedly suffered deep cuts on different parts of his body and died from the injuries before help could reach him.
Following the attack, police operatives visited the scene and recovered Danasin’s remains, which were later taken to a morgue.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Alayande, confirmed the killing on Thursday and said an investigation had commenced.
Alayande said the command was making efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects, adding that security operatives were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The story is true, and efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects,” the police spokesman said.
The killing has heightened concerns about the safety of residents using remote routes in the area, with the police expected to intensify their search for those responsible.
