Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), marking a major development in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
Makinde made the declaration during a political gathering attended by supporters, party loyalists, youth groups, and key stakeholders, where he emphasized the need for a new direction focused on national unity, economic stability, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance.
The governor stated that his decision followed wide consultations with political associates, professionals, and Nigerians across different regions who believe the country requires visionary and people-oriented leadership.
According to him, the movement is beyond personal ambition but a mission to build a stronger, more prosperous, and united Nigeria capable of restoring public confidence in governance and democratic institutions.
Makinde also used the occasion to unveil a strategic political alliance involving the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and other progressive forces ahead of the 2027 polls, signaling what observers describe as the beginning of a potentially significant political realignment.
Supporters at the event described the declaration as a bold step capable of reshaping the country’s political conversation, especially among young voters and grassroots mobilizers.
The announcement is expected to generate reactions across major political parties as permutations and alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election continue to gather momentum nationwide.
