The Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mr. Owoade Mathew, well known as Onaiye, has regained his freedom after spending days in the custody of his abductors.
Sources close to the victim’s family told Oyo Affairs correspondent that Mr. Owoade was released at about 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
According to the sources, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₦30 million. Following negotiations, the family reportedly bargained the amount down to ₦3 million, which the abductors initially accepted. However, after the family had raised the ₦3 million, the kidnappers allegedly increased their demand to ₦5 million.
The family was said to have paid the ₦5 million before Mr. Owoade was eventually released.
The source, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, confirmed that the headmaster has reunited with his family.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement regarding Mr. Owoade’s release or the reported ransom payment.
