Oyo Govt Declares Monday Work-Free Day For Teachers

The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state to commemorate this year’s Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Day.

The declaration was contained in a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde.

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Sunday, the directive is to enable teachers to participate fully in activities marking the occasion.

The government said the declaration was also part of its commitment to the welfare, dignity and professional development of teachers, describing them as key contributors to the state’s education system and human capital development.

It said the work-free day would provide teachers an opportunity to celebrate their contributions, reflect on developments in the education sector and strengthen unity among members of the teaching profession.
