The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has released the final list of candidates contesting chairmanship and councillorship positions in the state’s local government elections scheduled for December 29, 2026.

The commission said copies of the list had been presented to Electoral Officers (EOs) and Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs) for display at its offices across the state from Wednesday, October 28.

In a statement on the development, OYSIEC Chairman, Dr Afees Adeniyi, said the commission had made significant progress towards conducting the local government election, which would be the third consecutive council poll under the present administration.

Adeniyi disclosed this on Tuesday during an interactive meeting with electoral officers at the commission’s headquarters in Ibadan.

He said nine of the 15 activities listed in the final revised timetable and schedule of activities for the election had been completed successfully.

The OYSIEC chairman directed the electoral officers to ensure that the final list of candidates was displayed at all commission offices across the state without delay.

He also assured stakeholders that relevant parties would be involved in the electoral process to ensure a successful conduct of the election.

Adeniyi said the meeting was convened to strengthen communication between the commission’s leadership and electoral officers, adding that the commission members had reviewed the final list submitted by political parties.

He commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his interest in the council elections and approval of funds for their conduct.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Electoral Officers Forum, Dr Olusegun Odekunle, pledged the commitment of electoral officers and their assistants to ensuring a successful election.

Odekunle also commended the commission’s leadership for its role in the state government’s review of allowances for electoral officers and assistant electoral officers, as well as other welfare packages.
