Oyo Health Commissioner Hails Partners For Immense Support

Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Bashir Bello, has hailed the leadership of Development Governance Consult (DGC) and other partners for complementing the efforts of the state government at improving the health status of residents and citizens of the state.

Dr. Bello gave the accolade at a 3-day meeting of the state Health Financial Technical Working Group held at Owu Crown Hotel, Monatan, Iwo-Road, Ibadan.

According to him, “the purpose of the meeting was to appraise the state of health financing in Oyo to reach a consensus on how to do things differently in the 2021 budget allocated to the Ministry of Health, and to deepen the understanding of stakeholders on universal health coverage concept in order to identify major challenges with health financing in Oyo state and chart a course of action”

He noted that the State medical services are meant for all and sundry, adding that the government would continue to improve the sector in all ramifications.

While reiterating the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde led administration to the delivery of free health services, the commissioner commended Development Government Consult for conducting at supporting the government by coming to the aid of people battling with tuberculosis in the state.

Meanwhile, Dr Gafar Alawode, from Development Governance Consult partner (DGC) in his comments, sought for collective efforts to harness opportunities to accelerate Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme implementation.

Dr. Gafar said it was essential to develop an action plan for the scheme in order to place the state on universal health coverage trajectory.

Dignitaries at the meeting included, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Oyo State, Dr Mufutau Ayoola, the Executive Secretary, State’s Primary Health Care Board, Dr Muideen Olatunji, his counterpart at Health Insurance Scheme, Dr Sola Akande, the Director of planning research and statistics, Ministry of Health, Dr Gbolahan Abass among others.
