Alaafin of Oyo’s Family Announces Events to Mark Two Years Since Late Monarch’s Passing

The family of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, has announced a series of events lined up to commemorate the second anniversary of his passing.

The events, scheduled for Monday, 22nd April 2024, will include:

  1. Christian prayers, led by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and heads of churches, at the late monarch’s private residence in Boroboro Area, Oyo, Oyo State, at 9 am.
  2. Traditional Asa Orisa prayers at the Alaafin’s Palace, Oyo, at 9:50 am.
  3. Islamic prayers, led by the Oyo Central Mosque and the Al-Fatih-Ul-Al-Qureeb Muslim Organization, at the Qureeb Islamic Organization Central Mosque, Galilee Area, Oyo, at 3:10 am. This will be followed by an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Qureeb Mosque, sponsored by Honorable Prince Akeem Adeyemi, in loving memory of the late monarch.
  4. The energization of an electric transformer at Iware Town, sponsored by Honorable Akeem Adeyemi and Senator Yunus Akintunde, at 12 noon.

You will all recall that Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the 44th Alaafin of Oyo, passed away on Friday, 22nd April 2022, at the age of 83, after a remarkable 52-year reign. He was a champion of Yoruba culture and tradition and oversaw significant development in Oyo town and state during his rule.
