Another Oyo King, Onijeru of Ijeru-Ogbomoso Dies at 85

A few weeks after the death of the Alaafin of Oyo, another traditional ruler in Oyo state, the Onijeru of Ijeru kingdom in Ogbomoso South Local Government, Oba Elijah Olaniyi Popoola is dead.

According to reports, the ruler died peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning after a brief illness.

Oba Popoola who ascended the throne of his fathers in 2008 was 85 years old.

One of his sons, Moshood who confirmed the king’s death to newsmen, said that the ruler had been ill for a while.

He said, “Baba has been sick for a while but he woke up on Friday morning and we discussed for a while. I left the palace only to receive the news of his death shortly after.

“Though it is painful, but who are we to query God, who gives and takes at will. May God grant him eternal rest”, he prayed.
