Breaking: Makinde Presents N208 Budget, Earmarks 22 Percent for Education

Oyo state governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, has presented the 2020 appropriation bill of N208b on the floor of the state House of Assembly.

In line with the current administration’s agenda, the appropriation bill is expected to show its extent of focus on Security, Education, Health and expansion of the economy.

However, 22 per cent of the budget will be allocated to education, just as health and the public works departments will also get an increased percentage.

Meanwhile, 23 per cent has been earmarked from the budget for infrastructure in the State.

In his remarks during the presentation, Makinde assured that every kobo of the Two Hundred and Eight Billion, Eight Hundred and Two Million, Nine Hundred and Seventy-Two Thousand, Eight Hundred and Seventy-Eight Naira Zero Kobo will be accounted for adding that every single expenditure is geared towards facilitating the accelerated development of our beloved Oyo State.

The Governor, while citing reasons why the capital expenditure increased by about 20% compared to the 2019 budget, stated that ” increased allocation to capital projects directly contributes to a more buoyant economy and sustainable development.”

In his words; “You will also note that our capital expenditure increased by about 20% compared to the 2019 budget. Total capital expenditure of N100,142,690,046B, is 47.9% of the total budget estimate. The importance of this increase should not be lost on us. Increased allocation to capital projects directly contributes to a more buoyant economy and sustainable development. As stated earlier, we will not only be starting new projects but also completing all ongoing projects from the previous administration.”
