Bride Dies on Eve of Her Wedding in Ogbomoso

Tragedy struck in Ogbomoso, Oyo state, as a bride passed away the day after her scheduled wedding ceremony. The sudden death of Rebecca Oyedotun highlights the mysterious nature of life.

Rebecca and her husband, Abiodun Oluwadamilare, had planned to get married on Saturday, August 19. Preparations were well underway by Thursday, August 17, with the groom and his family arriving in Ogbomoso from Abeokuta, Ogun state. Rebecca had been in Ogbomoso since Monday.

“Everything was set by Friday…there were a lot of people coming and going to rejoice with us,” said a sister-in-law of the deceased. The groom’s family had even slaughtered a cow in Ogbomoso in anticipation of the celebration.

However, tragedy struck when the bride was nowhere to be found on the morning of the wedding. There were no signs of sickness prior to her disappearance.

On Friday night, during a bridal shower ceremony, Rebecca reportedly collapsed. She was rushed to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso and was briefly revived. It was initially believed that she would be able to attend the ceremony and sign the marriage documents before returning to the hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, her condition worsened and she was confined to her bed.

Despite efforts to save her, Rebecca’s condition continued to deteriorate and she passed away on Sunday morning.

Many guests arrived at the church on Saturday, unaware of the tragic turn of events. They were met with an empty church instead of a joyous celebration.

Rebecca, a 28-year-old graduate of Federal University of Technology (FUT) in Minna, Niger state, had served in Lagos before securing a job there. She was described as a gentle and devoted woman of God.
