CCTV Surveillance: Oyo NSCDC Trains 200 Officers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Oyo State Command began training 200 officers on the use of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) on Tuesday.

Mr. Iskilu Akinsanya, the Oyo State Commandant of NSCDC stated that the training was necessary to combat the rising crime rate in society, especially in Oyo State and went on to say that the training would assist officers in surveillance and crime analysis.

He also brought up the very relevant fact that crime has evolved past the stage where only rifles were needed to combat crime and that all security agencies around the country must adopt newer, different methods to combat crime, including the use of CCTV.

The Commandant also called on his officers to be alert to the responsibility they owe society and to discharge their duties efficiently by learning how to use the CCTV quickly and passing the knowledge on to their fellow officers.

In his words, “The NSCDC Commandant General (CG), Abubakar Audi, has emphasized that all the commands nationwide will be connected technologically.

“So, from Oyo State Command, we will be reaching and relating directly with them on what is happening in the state and this is why the training is very compulsory and important.

“At the end of the training, we expect that the officers will be able to analyze, digest any information gotten accurately,”.

The NSCDC Head of training in Oyo State, Assistant Corps Commandant (ACC), Olusola Omotajo also spoke and said the training would enhance the performance of the officers on the field, educate the officers on how to connect the CCTV with the internet and monitor the state for criminal acts.

He further pointed out examples of wireless CCTV protocols that can be monitored with smartphones and also took the opportunity to reiterate what the Oyo State commandant had previously said, noting that all security agencies need to acquire the knowledge quickly so that crime-fighting would become more efficient.
