Hon Olumide Ojerinde, the lawmaker representing Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo Constituency under the aegis of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has called for the cancellation of the constituency’s primary election.
He recalled that the primary election in Irepo, Oorelope and Olorunsogo Federal Constituency of Oyo State, was slated to hold at the viewing centre beside Ogunbode Secondary School, Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government.
However, according to him, on getting to the venue, it was discovered that certain candidates had declared themselves winners without all the local government delegates from each constituents.
Ojerinde named some of the candidates who declared themselves winners as — Yekini Popoola, Olaide Muhammad and J. S Amodu, describing each of the process that produced them as kangaroo and unacceptable by the law governing the APC.
The law maker who expressed displeasure about the development, maintained that such could retard the progress of the party.
While appealing for calm in an interview, the Igboho-born politician urged his followers to follow party regulations.
Also registering his displeasure at the process, the ward 7 youth leader in Olorunsogo Local Government, Soliu Garuba noted that what they witnessed had never happened before.
“How can a primary be conducted without the three constituencies participating?,” he queried
In the meantime, controversies and grumblings have continued to trail the conduct of the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and emergence of some candidates, despite the lapsing of INEC’s deadline on primary elections.
While some are calling for a total cancellation of the primaries conducted by the party to elect candidates, some are contesting the identities of their representation/delegates as well as impromptu change of election venue among others.
