Court Removes Oyo Monarch, Onifiditi of Fiditi

A High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the selection and appointment of Oba Oyeleye Sakirudeen as the Onifiditi of Fiditi. The court also granted a restraining injunction on further actions regarding the filling of the Onifiditi of Fiditi Stool, pending the determination of a suit on the matter.

Justice K.B. Olawoyin made the pronouncement in his ruling on a suit filed by Samuel Ogunkunle and Bayo Oyewale against Oba Sakirudeen and seven other defendants, including the Oyo State Governor and other officials.

The judge ruled that Oba Sakirudeen be removed and granted an injunction restraining further actions on filling the Onifiditi of Fiditi Stool. He also set aside the presentation of the Staff of Office to Oba Sakirudeen on October 18, 2021, by the Oyo State Governor and other officials.

The court document shows that R.A. Olawuwo and B.M. Olimene appeared for the claimants, while P.O. Alamu represented the first, second, third, and eighth defendants. O.A. Okeyinka appeared for the fourth defendant, and N.A. Abiola represented the fifth, sixth, and seventh defendants.

Justice Olawoyin awarded a cost of N200,000 in favour of the applicants against the first, second, third, and eighth defendants and adjourned further hearing on the suit until May 22, 2024.
