Chief Yomi Alliyu SAN, the lead counsel to Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho has revealed that Sunday Igboho’s release by the Beninese government is conditional and that he cannot leave the Benin Republic.
Speaking in a press release on Monday evening, the lawyer said that the Yoruba nation agitator received his conditional freedom to be able to receive medical attention within Cotonou and that the release was under the agreement that he should not leave the medical centre or Cotonou for any reason.
He added that the conditional freedom was secured with the intervention of two prominent Yoruba indigenes, Professor Wale Adeniran and Professor Banji Akintoye.
“Praises should be given to two prominent Yoruba personalities, to wit, Professor Wole Soyinka and Professor Banji Akintoye for this turnaround in our client’s matter.”
Recall that Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were arrested by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Republic of Benin on their way to Germany, on Monday, July 19, 2021.
Alliyu stated in the message: “Igboho has not been released; he was only released to be taken to the hospital to attend to his ill health.
“The last time we spoke, I told you that we were making arrangements to take him to the hospital over his ill health. So, he was released based on health grounds.
“I am to inform you that Chief Sunday Adeyemo has been released from prison to his medical practitioners under the agreement that he should not leave the medical centre or Cotonou for any reason.
