Drama as Nigerian Soldier Drags Police to Oyo Judicial Panel

An officer of the Nigerian Army has dragged the Nigeria Police Intelligence Agency before the Oyo State Judicial Panel of Inquiry into Police Brutality, Violation of Rights of Citizens and Unlawful Killings on the grounds of illegal detention for a year and 5 months.

The Petitioner named Lance Corporal Adeborijo Adebayo Samuel who was the third petitioner to be brought before the panel today said that he was illegally detained for a year and five months in Abuja and was declared AWOL by the Military.

Samuel in his testimony said he was arrested in the middle of the night by the Police’s Intelligence and Response Team in Ibadan, taken to Abuja, tortured for more than one year without anyone knowing his whereabouts

He also said he received threat calls from Abuja yesterday night saying he should show up in Abuja for questioning.

However, while Samuel was present and accompanied by his legal counsel in person of A. G. Adesokan, the respondent (the Nigeria Police Intelligence Agency) was not present or represented at the hearing.

After serious deliberation by the panel, the petition was adjourned till March 2, 2021 for definite hearing while the petitioner’s counsel was requested to serve all necessary process to the Nigeria Police Intelligence Agency before the next hearing.
