The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has described 2025 as a year of “focused groundwork and deliberate strides” in the power sector, assuring Nigerians that 2026 will bring more reliable, accessible, and sustainable electricity to homes, industries, and dreams.

The assurance was contained in his New Year message to Nigerians and the people of Oyo State, made available to our correspondent on Friday.

According to the minister, despite the challenges of 2025, significant progress was made in ensuring stability in the national grid.

“A lot was done to strengthen the national grid through the Presidential Power Initiative known as the Siemens deal. This is why we have curbed the incessant grid collapse of previous years. As Phase 1 of the PPI continues, we assure you of a strengthened grid that will make grid disturbance a thing of the past,” he said.

Adelabu stated that the new year would witness measurable progress in the power sector.

“The outgoing year has been one of focused groundwork and deliberate strides within the power sector. We have confronted complex challenges head-on, from grid resilience to distribution efficiencies, and I remain profoundly grateful for the resilience and understanding you have shown. Your steadfastness is the bedrock upon which we are building a more robust energy future.

“To the people of Oyo State, your unwavering support and the pride I carry in representing our shared heritage continue to fuel my dedication at the national level. Your aspirations are central to our mission.

“Looking ahead, our focus remains unshakeable: to deliver reliable, accessible, and sustainable electricity to power our homes, industries, and dreams. The path forward is built on continuity and renewed vigour. We will deepen our efforts on enhancing grid stability and expanding our transmission infrastructure to minimise disruptions.

Our collaboration with distribution companies will be intensified to ensure improvements in service delivery, while our metering initiative reaches every community,” he stated.

The minister added, “Our ‘Light Up Nigeria initiative’ remains a priority, with continued focus on industrial clusters and agricultural hubs to stimulate economic growth and job creation. We are equally committed to unlocking the potential of renewable energy, creating avenues for solar and hydropower to bring light to underserved areas.”

Adelabu noted that the journey ahead requires a united front.

He called on state governments, local communities, the private sector, and all citizens to be active partners.

“Protecting power infrastructure and embracing energy-efficient practices are vital contributions every Nigerian can make. Let us step into the new year with a shared commitment and a collective spirit of optimism. The work continues, and our resolve is stronger than ever. I wish you all a peaceful, prosperous, and brilliantly lit new year,” the statement concluded.
