The officials of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwifery, NANNM in Lagos State have arrested a fake nurse in the Isolo General Hospital, Mrs Olufunke Adegbenro with a forged LAUTECH Nursing degree.
The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso-acclaimed graduate was alleged to have forged a Bachelor of Nursing degree certificate from the university as well as a National Youth Corps discharge Certificate.
Mrs. Adegbenro who went further to forge a registered nurse certificate from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and a practising licence to get the nursing job was arrested during a verification exercise recently conducted at Isolo General Hospital.
Narrating the incident, the Chairman of the NANNM, Lagos State, Olurotimi Awojide said that the verification officers discovered the fraud during the exercise and called his attention to it.
In his words “My attention was brought to a case of forgery of certificate and licence and as the chairman of the association, the licence was forwarded to me for scrutiny and I also confirmed that it was fake”.
He further revealed that “About two weeks ago, we started our verification of practising licence in all our hospitals and the major reason was that we wanted to know those who were yet to renew their licence and that was when someone saw the licence and saw that it was fake and different from others.
“I went to meet the accused to as her questions and to get her documents. We invited the police who arrested her and took her to a police station where she confessed that all the certificates with her were fake and the person that helped her to produce them was based in Ibadan.
Confirming the incident, Mr Olaide Animashaun, the Director of Nursing Services, Lagos State Health Services Commission said it was true but did not give further details.
Efforts to get the permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Ademuyiwa Enianyewun to speak on the issue proved abortive as he declined to comment on the matter till he was finished with enough information.
The matter has since been reported to the lions building Police Station as investigations are already in motion.
