Fire Razes MTN Booster Station in Ibadan

A booster station belonging to a telecommunications company, located on the premises of the University of Ibadan, has caught fire.

Reports indicate that the booster station is situated within the Faculty of Nursing at the university.

Our correspondent learned that the substation caught fire due to an electrical surge.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, caused by an electricity surge.

It was reported that the fire affected the Mikano electrical generator, control board, and other telecommunications equipment in the booster station.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident on Saturday when contacted.

He stated that the booster station belonged to MTN.

Akinyinka noted that personnel from the agency, along with firefighters from the university, were able to extinguish the fire.

He said, “The Oyo State Fire Service’s prompt response helped to douse the fire at the MTN booster station beside the Faculty of Nursing, University of Ibadan.

“The fire incident was reported at exactly 04:00 hrs on Saturday, 22nd February 2025.

“Fire personnel, led by ACFS Olubunmi, were promptly deployed to the scene and arrived on time.

“On arrival, we found the Mikano electrical generator and control board on fire. We quickly collaborated with the university’s fire marshals, and the fire was completely extinguished. The fire was caused by an electrical surge.”
