There seems to be no end in sight to the crisis rocking the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The seemingly cold tension between the various political actors within the party in the state is about to erupt into another round of bitter acrimony that will further damage the fabric of peace among the rank and file of the party in Oyo State.
One of such is the resolution by stakeholders within the leadership of the party rising from a meeting called to assess the indices that led to the scandalous defeat of the All Progressives Congress in the last gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in the state.
The meeting, where a critical assessment of the factors that played out before, during and after the elections were objectively analysed, revealed that the Gubernatorial candidate of the party in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Kola Folarin contributed largely to the defeat of the party to the ruling PDP in the state.
It was further revealed that of major concern is the lack of judicious use of funds running into over 1 billion naira released by the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Oyo State chapter of the APC and it’s gubernatorial candidate.
The said sum, which was released in two tranches of 250 million naira and 1.2 billion naira was meant for both the presidential campaign and the presidential election management respectively.
According to a source at the meeting, “The funds, which is yet to be accounted for by the party and the state campaign council, was not judiciously utilised as majority of the stakeholders and leaders of the party were not carried along in the disbursement of the funds.
“Only a section of the party loyal to the gubernatorial candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin got carried along in the disbursement of the funds.
“Most of the leaders from other groups within the party had to source funds independently to mobilise their supporters for the presidential election of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Both the campaign and election management funds circulated within the Folarin camp, loyalist and supporters.
“Groups that were not tagged Folarin loyalist were disenfranchised from the funding arrangement.
“These among other factors served as the demoralising factor for most of the larger population of stakeholders, who adopted the Siddon look approach when it was time for the gubernatorial election.
“Do you expect them to use their personal resources to fund the gubernatorial election like that of the presidential election, the answer is No.
“It is what you give that you get.
“As it is now, the meeting has resolved to ask that an account of all these funds should be rendered.
“We want to know how the money was expended.
“We have gotten a detailed record of every penny that accrued in the name of APC in Oyo State and we want accounts rendered for posterity sake,”the source added.
