Gov. Makinde Commissions Agodi Bike Park, Says No Plan To Ban Motorcycles, Tricycles in Oyo

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde on Friday commissioned a Bike Park at Agodi-Gate, Ibadan, the state’s capital city, for use by commercial motorcycles and tricycles.

Speaking at the event, the Governor disclosed that the project which is a pilot study will be replicated across the state if the project works according to its design framework.

Gov Makinde also emphasised that his administration will not put a ban on the use of commercial motorcycles in the state but will take drastic efforts to regulate their activities in order to incorporate them into the informal sector and also limit criminal activities associated with its operators.

He said, “The motorcycle and tricycle operators in the state are part of the electorates who elected this government into power.

“What this administration wants is to ensure ease of doing business for the okada and maruwa riders and better access to transportation facilities for the people of Oyo State.

“We don’t want to impose a ban on motorcycles and tricycles in Oyo State but we have to regulate their activities.

“So, what we want you to do is get yourselves organised.

“We have security challenges and okada and maruwa operators also have to help the government.

“People that are using motorcycles to perpetrate crimes, when you get organised, it will be easy to fish them out and hand them over to the law enforcement agencies.

“This is a pilot study. If it works according to the design plan, we will replicate this all over the state.”
