Oyo state government, on Monday, flagged off decontamination of the Agodi secretariat to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus amongst its workers.
Speaking at the three day fumigation of the Agodi, Secretariat, Governor Seyi Makinde who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun said the decontamination was one of the measures employed by the state government to curb the spread of coronavirus pandemic in Oyo state.
Governor Makinde urged other corporate bodies to be responsive by also embarking on a decontamination exercise around their properties.
Also speaking, the chairman of the COVID-19 decontamination and containment project, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, said only indicated places with a possible case of COVID-19 will be decontaminated while public spaces would receive mild fumigation.
In his remark, the state commissioner for Health, Dr. Bashir Bello said the decontamination process is basically meant to weaken the effectiveness of the dreaded virus since its life span is yet ascertained by medical practioners.
The team for containment exercise were volunteers from the University of Ibadan who were supporting the state government as part of their social responsibility gesture.
Oyo Affairs correspondent, reports that the fumigation exercise ends this Wednesday.
